Urban Green Lab Celebrates 15th Anniversary

On December 12, Urban Green Lab hosted a 15th Anniversary celebration to commemorate 15 years of sustainability education for Nashville. The event included remarks from our Executive Director, Todd Lawrence, remarks from Mayor Freddie O'Connell on the city's sustainability progress and goals, a proclamation from Council Member Brenda Gadd in honor of our 15 years of service as a nonprofit, and recognition of some of our sustainability champions.

Our Executive Director, Todd Lawrence, spoke about the impact Urban Green Lab has had on individuals and Nashville as a whole over the past 15 years.

Mayor O'Connell gave attendees a pop-quiz on Nashville's sustainability efforts residents can participate in, including Music City Solar by NES and the residential compost pick-up pilot by Metro Nashville Waste Services.

Karissa Hampton, our assistant director of households, presented program champions with a token of thanks for their contribution to our work. Those recognized include Dr. Jennifer Berry, Kate Wingate, Kären Wieckert, Mariah Ragland, and Dr. Reginald Archer.

Attendees enjoyed food and drinks provided in part by Kroger, spent plenty of time reminiscing on a great 15 years, had a chance to win two door prizes with gifts from The Good Fill, Nelson's Green Brier Distillery, Lazarus Artisan Good, The Nashville Zoo, and each guest took home a commemorative pint glass and M&Ms.

Thank you to REED Public Relations, our event sponsor, and our Host Committee for their financial support of our celebration!

About Urban Green Lab:
Urban Green Lab (UGL) is a Nashville-based nonprofit founded in 2009 that teaches communities how to live sustainably. It works to ensure everyone has access to sustainable living education. To do that, UGL organizes, trains, and connects people in classrooms, households, and workplaces—places where culture begins. In all these places, UGL incorporates education on two important sustainability topics for Nashville: environmental justice and food waste, connecting everyday decisions to the impact on our neighbors and the planet.
