NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 18, 2024)—Urban Green Lab, a Nashville nonprofit, and Zero Waste Nashville, a division of Metro Water Services Waste Services department, announce the launch of their podcast, Sustainable in the City, where Nashville sustainability champions take the spotlight to share their stories.
“The Zero Waste Nashville team is excited to unveil the next evolution of Sustainable in the City,” said Jenn Harrman, Zero Waste Program Manager. “By transforming it into a podcast, we’re creating a dynamic platform to spotlight the incredible efforts of everyday Nashvillians who are championing sustainability. From big changes to small, impactful steps, the actions of our residents are the heartbeat of our city’s journey towards sustainability. By sharing their inspiring stories, we aim to empower and encourage all Nashvillians to discover fresh, innovative ways to reduce waste and embrace a more sustainable lifestyle.”
Sustainable in the City episodes will be released on the third Tuesday of each month starting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, on Spotify, Amazon Music, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Hosted by Allie Omens, Zero Waste Program Coordinator, and Karissa Hampton, Sustainable Households Manager at Urban Green Lab, each episode features a Nashville community member sharing the benefits, barriers, and motivators behind their sustainable choices that make an impact for Nashville. Guests include beginner composters, thrift store treasure hunters, do-it-yourself repair enthusiasts, and more.
“We are thrilled to re-launch Sustainable in the City as a podcast featuring everyday Nashville residents sharing their sustainability journeys,” said Todd Lawrence, Executive Director of Urban Green Lab. “Each day, our team has the privilege to hear people’s inspiring personal stories about sustainability, and it is an exciting opportunity to share some of those with the city of Nashville through this podcast.”
Established in 2021, Sustainable in the City began as a webinar featuring local sustainability experts. Over three seasons and 45 episodes, the series discussed topics like waste, river-friendly farm practices, environmental justice, composting, creative reuse, and more. As Sustainable in the City shifts to a podcast, listeners will hear from everyday Nashville residents about what sustainability means to them and their approach to reducing waste and living sustainably.
About Urban Green Lab:
We teach communities how to live sustainably. A Nashville-based nonprofit founded in 2009, we work to ensure all of us have access to sustainable living education. To do that, we organize, train, and connect people in classrooms, households, and workplaces – places where culture begins. In all of these places, we incorporate education on two strategic topics of sustainability for Nashville: environmental justice and food waste, connecting everyday decisions to the impact on our neighbors and the planet.
About Zero Waste Nashville:
Zero Waste Nashville (ZWN) was established in 2021 to advance Nashville’s Zero Waste Master Plan goals to reduce waste to landfill by 90% by 2050. As a division of Metro Water Services Waste Services department, ZWN works to implement new policies and programs that help Nashvillians refuse, reuse, recycle, and compost. This includes addressing Nashville’s construction and demolition waste, identifying new solutions for food and other organic waste, and expanding options for recycling at the curb and at drop-off locations across the county. Additionally, ZWN strives to educate and empower the community to reduce their waste while also properly managing waste and recycling right.
