Sustainable Classrooms

Learning how to live sustainably is a part of life in our classrooms.

The Sustainable Classrooms division works to provide educators with the confidence, tools, and community needed to empower students to make lifelong sustainable choices. The program introduces educators to our standards-aligned curriculum, a PBL project, and student-led home investigations as a base to applying a sustainability lens to learning in any formal or informal K-12 classroom.

In 2021 we welcomed our new Sustainable Classrooms manager, Christina Langone, to our team. She has big goals to create a Professional Learning Community of trained educators to deepen our collective learning and collaboration. Even with COVID-19 we were able to add 20 new educators to our community and we can't wait to see where 2022 takes us in our shared work.

Sustainable Households

Learning how to live sustainably is a part of life in our households.

The Households Division works to develop systems of sustainable education where we live. Through organizing green teams, personalized training, and connecting residents to resources across the city, we help make sustainability a permanent part of everything we do.

Sustainable Workplaces

Learning how to live sustainably is a part of life in our workplaces.

The Workplaces Division is focused on embedding sustainability education fluidly in Nashville businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, government offices, and other workplaces. Through the Urban Green Lab Certification program, workplaces show a deepened commitment to continued employee education and become models to other workplaces in Nashville who are working to fulfill the Mayor's sustainability initiatives. The Nashville Sustainability Roundtable, is an opportunity for workplaces to share their best practices around sustainability education and work through potential roadblocks in a like-minded community.

In 2021, Jackie Goodwin became the new Sustainable Workplaces Manager. Her vision to revitalize the division's programming has yielded new participants and expanded Urban Green Lab's reach in the community. Jackie has updated the Lab Certification assessment, benefit protocol, and training assets and prepared the Roundtable to relaunch in person in 2022 with new membership benefits.

FY21 (Short Year) includes activity between July 1 and December 31, 2020. CY2021 includes activity between January 1 and December 31, 2021. In July 2020 we switched from a July 1-June 30 fiscal year to a January 1 to December 31 fiscal year. CY2021 is the first of this new calendar cycle.
