Please join Green Drinks Nashville and Urban Green Lab on Wednesday, May 16, at Village Pub for a talk with the co-author of the new book, COOLER SMARTER: Practical Steps for Low-Carbon Living (Island Press). The book, by a team of experts at the Union of Concerned Scientists, shows readers how to make the biggest impact when it comes to reducing their carbon emissions and when not to sweat the small stuff. It also turns many eco-myths on their head, like the importance of “food miles” or the superiority of all hybrid cars.

Who: David Friedman, co-author of COOLER SMARTER, and a national expert on vehicle issues at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
When: 6 pm, Wednesday, May 16
Where: Village Pub, 1308 McGavock Pike (in Riverside Village/Inglewood neighborhood of East Nashville)

Folks, we’ve made tremendous progress in the last few months on all fronts, especially in the area of corporate support. Talks are underway to get a great many building materials and components donated for Urban Green Lab’s construction. This generous support will have a major impact on our fundraising requirements and we expect to make announcements regarding specific companies and their commitments over the next few months. In the meantime, we hope you continue to spread the word about Urban Green Lab to friends, family and co-workers! We have a lot more work to do before ground breaking and we appreciate everyone’s continued support with donations and volunteering in many areas within our organization!

Urban Green Lab is excited to partner with Yelp! Nashville’s Elite Squad for an event this Thursday evening, April 26th at Watanabe in Riverside Village. We’re celebrating the launch of another local product, Pour Taste (AKA the newly launched mobile app and most in depth and trusted cocktail house locator).

We’re also excited to have the event at Watanabe’s, an establishment that abides by the standards of sustainability and whose goal is to bring world flavors to our neighborhood using fresh, local ingredients as they are available.

Urban Green Lab will be on hand to talk to people about what we do. Thanks to those of you who will be coming out to join us. We’ll see you then.

It’s unanimous!

Our Metro hearing at yesterday’s BZA (“Board of Zoning Appeals”) meeting was an unqualified success! Taking special note of our broad community support and partnerships throughout the city, the board voted unanimously to approve our four variance requests for our building. For fans of Government Access Cable Channel 3 in Nashville (we know you are out there!) watch for reruns to see how the excitement unfolded… Seriously! :-

A BIG THANK YOU to the BZA members and to our continuously awesome architects, Mark West of Exoterra Solutions and Alan Thompson of Ragan Smith Associates, who planned and presented our case. Next step: Construction drawings. The wind is at our backs but we still have a long way to go before we break ground. There are many ways to get involved. Consider volunteering or making a donation today and be a part of this historic effort.
